Welcome

In this resort-style residency, we offer one- and two-week residencies for writers from around the world. Located in the Coachella Valley in Palm Desert, CA--near Joshua Tree National Park and Palm Springs--writers can sit by our saline pool and work on new poems, a memoir, construct a manuscript or revise work. Please visit our facebook page for pictures and a video of the 600 sq. feet of remodeled space dedicated to writers of all disciplines. In addition to housing, each resident receives a meal debit card to enjoy the many surrounding restaurants (and your personal refrigerator is stocked). All weekly residents arrive on a Friday and depart the following Saturday. For more information, please view our web site. 

Application Deadlines

The September 1 (to October 16) window/deadline is for residencies in the following year. Notification of results is sent via email by mid-December.  

Fees

Our nonrefundable application fee is $25. Residents are responsible for their own travel to and from Palm Desert, CA.

Length of Stay

Residencies vary in length – the average stay is one week. The maximum stay is two weeks.

Application Instructions

Submit a work sample that reflects the type of project you will pursue during your residency (Memoir, Fiction, Poetry, Drama, etc.) and that represents recent, finished work. You may apply in only one discipline and one genre. Only submit what is requested: 10 pages of work (in your genre); your full resume; and a 300 word project description (including 3 date choices in the coming year--all in one PDF document). Caveat Emptor

Some residencies are during the summer months when temperatures in the desert can reach upward to 120 degrees (usually, summer is about 105 degrees with very low humidity). That said, the pool is nice & warm. Your suite has air conditioning. When you submit your three date choices, please go with your ideal: if summer in the desert is not an option because you hate the heat/sun then only add dates that you can truly function within, which might be the winter months when the desert valley is cooler.  Some priority is given to those who apply in July & August.
